![]() We report on how light, efficient, and smooth they ride, when the truth is that most riders purchase and ride the lower specced, heavier, clunkier models that can be in a different league of performance even though they are from the same range or family of bikes. Normally we are blessed/baited by the most expensive, bling bikes, carbon this and lightweight that, high precision, tuned and ergonomically perfected steeds that in reality, sell low numbers. It's a tough job ( sob sob) for us tech editors at Pinkbike to test a bike from the lower echelons of the bike world. The Bossnut is also very well specced for the money and comparable to bikes much higher in price so it could be treated as a new bike but the same capability and spec of used bike. The age old question, it’s up to the individual I suppose, but there is something nice about having a brand new bike with everything working at once, I’ve built many a bike when upgrading the frame with all sorts of horror stories. Why would a rider choose the Bossnut over a well maintained, used bike of a similar price? Honestly, I started this project with fairly new or returning riders in mind, but the first Bossnut quickly surpassed that so with the ‘V2’ I wanted to upgrade the frame with things like the increased reach, shorter stem, and increased tyre spacing so they could be ridden at UK enduros or the Alps etc. What type of rider is the Bossnut aimed at? ![]() Once I had this a test bike was built and ridden in the Peak (UK) by a few of us and we tested several different shock tunes and then the rest is history as they say. Then on the opposite of this, I looked at what was out at the price point I wanted to hit and not seeing geometry or spec that I felt would give riders the best ride or time on their bike. ![]() Really it came from riding bikes like these, reading reviews and seeing the direction of the market. How did you decide upon the geometry numbers for this bike? It looks like the Bossnut is lining itself up against some big sellers like the Specialized Stumpjumper, Trek Fuel and Giant Trance? While Calibre has done a truly outstanding job with the design and equipping of the Bossnut Evo, it unsurprisingly hits its limits slightly earlier than the 40 to 50 percent more expensive bikes it is often compared to.Three Questions with Mike Sanderson, Calibre Brand Manager. The Recon fork retains control a long way down rocky descents before your forearms start to blow up, and is easy to adjust for rider weight, too. The simple Monarch R shock has better peak oil flow than more complex compression-adjustable dampers, so the 130mm of rear travel will swallow surprisingly large blocks and drops before things get sketchy.Īlthough there’s no lockout lever for climbs and road sections, the Evo pedals well enough that this isn’t an issue. The Calibre’s back end isn’t as rock-meltingly smooth as some of its competitors, but it does a good job of minimising impact force while keeping the bike level and the rear wheel connected. In short, the geometry works just fine for what most people spending £1,000 are going to think of as mountain biking. The 67-degree head angle means the fork doesn’t flop around like a sulky teenager on steep climbs. It’s quicker and easier to change direction in tighter situations, though, encouraging you to play with trail features rather than plough through them. There’s routing for an internal or external dropper seatpost cable/hose, but you’ll have to add the actual post yourself Andy Lloyd / Immediate Media ![]() With a relatively short 445mm reach and 1,145mm wheelbase (large), it doesn’t feel as unshakably stable through rocks and roots or scythe through high-load turns like longer bikes. The 45mm stem ties everything together nicely, so the steering is light and obedient but the bike doesn’t need to be pointed downhill and moving fast for it to make sense. Your initial contact with a bike is always important, and the Evo’s 780mm bar and 67-degree head angle give a reassuringly safe feel, without being super-wide or slack. The Kore bar and own-brand stem match the handling well. Shimano’s Deore brakes offer better modulation and power than their M300-series anchors, and SRAM’s clunky NX 11-speed shifter and rear mech are relentlessly reliable. The WTB rims are wide for extra tyre support and easy to turn tubeless, and the tyres are acceptable for the price. While the Recon fork isn’t the latest Boost-width (110mm) version, its 15mm thru-axle adds welcome steering accuracy and security compared to a QR. The 67-degree head angle, 780mm bar and 45mm stem increase control and confidence without being a handful on flatter/climbing trails Andy Lloyd / Immediate MediaĬalibre has put together an outstanding package for £999 (with discount card). ![]()

![]() ![]() Thanks in advance for the great advice on this forum. If there is a simple pool automations ystems that can do it, I'm up for that. I just want a pump timer with freeze protection and remote monitoring of the switch status. ![]() All of those seem like way overkill for what I have. I realize this takes me into a the pool automation area. Remote monitoring with an app of some sort. I have foudn plenty of timers that have freeze protection. I turn it on manually when it approaches freezing during the day. ![]() I currently have the pump running from midnight to 9:00 am. I have converted it to salt and replaced a single lightswitch on the pump with a digital timer. You do not want to have those 8 wires flopping/mixing around as you remove/install the clocks and then accidentally connect wrong and short out pump or heater.I moved to a house with an older pool earlier this year. Based on data gathered from users' purchase habits, this system will automatically rank things on a scale of 1 to 10. If you have any questions at all please ask, and as a suggestion identify/mark the wires as you remove them from the old clock tag a,b,c,d, or 1 wrap of elec tape, 2 wraps, 3 wraps etc. Lnicez Prime 2 DEWENWILS Pool Pump Timer, Outdoor Smart Wi-Fi Box, Heavy Duty View on Amazon HM Score Our team of experts worked tirelessly to research and develop the HM Score, a method that provides the most objective ratings. (remember on the old clock the white clock wires went to A and C and they must do the same on the new clock, tapping into the 2 incoming lines - L to com1, N to com2 There should be 2 copper plate jumpers or wire jumpers that came with the new clock and should connect terminal L to com1, and N to com2. That 'T' is representing the timer motor. New clock diagram shows L & N terminals connected internally to a 'T'. ![]() The new timer schematic shows 6 terminals L, N, com1, no1, com2, no2Įxisting timeclock to new - move wires as follow Both your existing and this new switch are technically DPST(double pole single throw- 2 single pole switches combined).įirstly, your sketch is close, but Not correct - see below The link you provide for the new timer, per the wiring diagram shown will work as a replacement, although it does inaccurately describe it as SPST(single pole single throw). What is happening in your existing timeclock is this: when timer says 'turn on', internal switches close and connect terminal A to B, and terminal C to D. You did not indicate if your 2 loads were 120 or 240volt, assuming 240v with one being a heater, and current wiring but please advise if these loads are 120v as that may mean your current wiring is not correct(load neutrals should not be switched by clock). Those white wires are feeding the clock motor and confirms to me that A & C are the input power terminals. So from your pic I see that there are 2 white wires with factory crimps connected to our newly designated terminals A & C (the 2nd and 4th terminal from the left). Now, lets disregard the leftmost terminal(with no wires) and going from left to right with the remaining 4 terminals, lets call them A, B, C, D. This is a common time clock that internally has 2 separate NO(normally open) contacts(switches) that will both close when timer hits its mark (think 2 separate switches that close at the same time when timer says 'go'. pic 163833.jpg shows me 5 terminals on your existing mechanical timeclock. The following is written assuming no electrical knowledge so forgive if that's not the case. That being said, I have held a master electrician license since 1993 and have installed/replaced countless time clocks in my lifetime working commercial/industrial/residential and 100% can help you with this wiring issue. The parang has been noted in John "Lofty" Wiseman's SAS Survival Handbook for this use. Like the machete, the parang is frequently used in the jungle as well as being a tool for making housing, furniture, and tools. The tang of the parang is usually of hidden tang design, but full tang designs are also available.Īn example of a parang variant, the parang candung which was popularized by Ray Mears A parang handle is normally made out of wood or horn, with a wide end to prevent slips in wet conditions. The parang has three different edges: the front is very sharp and used for skinning, the middle is wider and used for chopping, and the back end (near the handle) is very fine and used for carving. The parang has a weight of up to 2 lb (0.9 kg) and the edge usually uses a convex grind. The parang blade ranges from 10 to 36 inches (25.4 to 91.44 cm) in length. This is the same rationale and (in practical terms) the same design as the Indonesian golok and very similar to the Filipino bolo. Typical vegetation in South East Asia is more woody than in South America, and the parang is therefore optimized for a stronger chopping action with a heavier blade and a " sweet spot" farther forward of the handle the blade is also beveled more obtusely to prevent it from binding in the cut. Although some may argue that it could be called a machete or a chopper as it is a direct variation of the modern machete, its academic status remains as a knife. It is often mistakenly assumed to be a sword however, there is no evidence that it has ever been used in a formal military conflict, nor that its intended purpose was to be used as a combat weapon. The parang ( / ˈ p ɑːr ɑː ŋ/ Dusun: dangol) is a type of knife used across the Malay archipelago. ![]() ![]() ![]() So where should we start to describe his climbing accomplishments this year? A little patience, and empathy, can go a long way. ![]() You could see everyone was working hard, trying to please the guests and like most places nowadays, I can’t fault the hotel for making us wait for things. We also got good service, despite seeing the hotel short-staffed. It was clean and comfortable and well-maintained and that’s what is important. The furniture and carpeting is gold, brown and garnet, which isn’t the current style that favors grays, greige, teal and light blue but I can’t fault the hotel. I know some prior reviewers downgraded the hotel due to it’s dated decor and service but I will not. My husband had the continental only and I upgraded to the made to order breakfast (French toast) which we split. For $11 you can select the continental breakfast (juice, coffee, muffins, toast, danish, oatmeal, cereal and fruit) and for $3 more you can get a made-to-order breakfast on top of that (eggs any style, omelettes, French toast, pancakes, served with bacon, sausage and home fries). Woke up refreshed and had a great breakfast. Heard our neighbors a couple of times too (perhaps talking in the hall?) but that was it. Heard the planes overhead once or twice early in the evening but that was it. We had more than enough space to spread out for the two of us and our luggage. We booked a regular king room and it was HUGE with double sinks (!!!). We needed a place near LAX and Budget car rental and based on the reviews, decided to book here. We would however, be more than happy to stay in the El Segundo neighbourhood again. Despite the good breakfast, barman and friendly shuttle drivers, we probably wouldn’t chose to stay here again, on the basis of the relatively poor treatment we received from the member of staff at reception. We have high praise for the barman at the hotel, who was very friendly and made the hotel bar a fun place to be. If you are prepared to walk a little further, there are also some great little breweries nearby and we found everyone very friendly. The hotel is in a decent neighbourhood and there is a very good supermarket close by, as well as an ihop and other places to eat. We also spent an hour or so by the pool and it was a nice area to relax. After a ‘difficult’ search, a room with no interconnecting door and away from the lifts was found! The rooms here are starting to look a little dated, but are absolutely fine and we had a view of the pool. We went straight back down and explained the situation and really did not receive the type of response we have become used to with Hilton properties. We returned a couple of hours later and were swiftly checked in, so we headed to our room, only to discover it was next to the lift AND had an inter-connecting door. We understood and left our bags to go out for some lunch. Two things we always request not to have. We arrived early and the only rooms available were next to the lift, or had an inter-connecting door. Although we had difficulty understanding each other on the telephone, the shuttle arrived 15 - 20 minutes after we had called and we were the only people on the shuttle. As others had usefully mentioned in their reviews, you need to call the hotel when you have arrived so that they can send the shuttle. We chose this hotel on the basis that it was not far from the airport (but not right next to it), had a shuttle available and was also not too far from some places to eat and drink.
